Spin
by Jason on Mar.22, 2007, under Conspiracy
When I was trying to find a link to Spin for purchase, I found that it’s already online in its entirety, on Google video. Click here to watch. Very interesting. In watching it again, it’s apparent that we are in the next step of the decontextualization of images. You can go to youtube and download specific scenes from movies, not the whole thing. This is not unlike the choice given by satellites, where one could watch the packaged television product, or watch the raw images themselves. What satallite dishes did to undermine the hegemony of old media, the Internet is doing ten-fold. And with video cameras available on every cell phone and digital technology only getting better, I can’t think of a time in history where the flow of information (news, entertainment, etc) was so democratized. The Obama 1984 Apple ad is probably the tip of the iceberg for new media campaign strategy. Makes sense.
An inconvenient truth
by Jason on Jun.16, 2006, under Movies
I haven’t seen Al Gore’s movie, but I’ve been looking at some astronomy sites, and it looks as though Mars is undergoing its own global warming. However, the evidence suggests that there are no private jets flying around on Mars, nor any SUVs, nor an over-abundance of carbon-based life forms to account for Martian global warming.
I’m not an expert, but I’m willing to bet that climate change is due in large part to natural shifts in planetary dynamics such as axial tilt angles. Maybe the whole solar system is globally warming due to the temperature of the sun. I’m not saying the evidence for global warming isn’t compelling, I’m just saying it’s not conclusive.
